Donor Advised Fund
Harness the Giving Power of a Community Foundation
A donor advised fund (DAF), which is like a charitable savings account, gives you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to the Women's Foundation of Minnesota and other qualified charities. You can recommend a grant or recurring grants now to make an immediate impact or use your fund as a tool for future charitable gifts.
You can also create a lasting legacy by naming the Women's Foundation of Minnesota the beneficiary of the entire account or a percentage of the fund. With a percentage, you can create a family legacy of giving by naming your loved ones as your successor to continue recommending grants to charitable organizations. Contact your fund administrator for a beneficiary form.

An Example of How It Works
"By creating a donor advised fund, I can increase the impact of my contributions, include my family in meaningful ways, and do this on a budget that felt comfortable.
"Once my husband and I established our fund, the real fun began. We focused our charitable giving on organizations that stirred our passions, knowing that we could start small while creating the opportunity to make larger, more impactful gifts as the fund grew." — Romaine Scharlemann and Richard Baker, donor advisors, Scharlemann-Baker Fund.
The couple receives a federal income tax charitable deduction for the amount of the gift. They also get all the time they need to decide which charities to support.
After researching community needs with the foundation's staff, Romaine and Richard recommend grants for the Women's Foundation, which they've supported for years, and Dunwoody College of Technology, among others. The foundation presents the charities with checks from the Scharlemann-Baker Fund. "We love that we are leaving a charitable legacy for our two sons as they step into advisor roles one day, funding causes they care about," Romaine said.
